Back in 2012, I had a number of half-finished instrumental music tracks that I’d been working on. It was a time in my life when my wife Marie was seriously ill, and I needed something to help take my mind off the situation. So I decided to pick the best four (it was originally going to be six), and publish them online.
After many discussions with Marie, we settled on the name Amber Music Express. As well as sounding music-related, the name was meant to sound a bit like a newspaper. And it combined my initials (AE) and Marie’s initials (ME).
I created a website, and wrote about music-related topics and equipment, as well as publishing the music tracks under that name. The music appeared on sites such as ReverbNation, SoundCloud, SoundClick and MySpace. I also published a number of ringtones on the now-defunct Myxer website.
Naming the Tracks
When I’m working on music, I just use a simple code name to start with, and worry about a proper title later. Here are the names that I eventually settled on, along with the thoughts behind the names.
Meaning: Why did this happen to us? (Regarding Marie’s illness.)
Title: One Thing’s For Certain
Meaning: I might not know what the future holds for us, but I’ll always love you.
Title: You Will Always Be With Me
Meaning: A part of the people I’ve loved and lost will always remain in my heart.
Title: Don’t Stop
Meaning: You just have to keep going, no matter what life throws at you.
Not long after finishing the music tracks, I found that a lot of my time was taken up simply responding to interactions on the various music websites that I joined — especially ReverbNation. I ended up writing a review of that site, which proved to be one of the most popular articles, often ranking 1st or 2nd place in Google search results!
Some time after losing Marie, I decided to close the Amber Music Express website.
It’s now about six years after the original release date. And while I’ve got this new Jigsaw Mix website, I thought it would be nice to re-issue the tracks under the new name.
I don’t feel as though they’re my best work, but I hope you like them. All the tracks are quite different, and I’d like to complete some more material over the next year or so.
